Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Izmir Izmir, Pergamum, Thyatira, Izmir

You will be met by your guide at Izmir International Airport (for Pre-Cruise) or at the Port of Izmir (for Post-Cruise) and transferred to your hotel by a private vehicle.

The modern metropolis of Izmir was once the ancient city of Smyrna (Rev: 2:8-11), which received nothing but praise from Jesus. The day will continue with a trip to Pergamum (Rev: 2:12-17), viewing the ancient Acropolis, the Altar of Zeus (also referred to as “Satan’s Throne”), and the Roman medical center of Asklepion. Afterwards, we will drive to Akhisar and visit Thyatira (Rev: 2:18-29; Acts 16:14), a city of artisans’ guilds in St. Paul’s time. We will return to Izmir for overnight. (Lunch, Dinner)

Day 2: Pamukkale | Ephesus, St. Mary’s House, Pamukkale

After breakfast at the hotel, we will drive towards Selcuk to visit Ephesus with its expansive synthesis of Greco-Roman and Christian remains. It was one of the Seven Churches of Revelation (Ephesians; Rev: 1:11, 2:1-7: Acts 18:19-28: 19:1-4), and one of the most important cities in the Hellenistic era, house to the famous Library of Celcius and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Temple of Artemis. It was the home of St. Paul between 54-57 AD and also houses the burial site of John the Apostle (St. John Basilica).

Nearby, we visit House of Virgin Mary on a wooded hilltop where itw as miraculously discovered. It is believed to be the last abode of Virgin Mary, taken there by St. John, and having lived there until Her Assumption/Dormition. The site has also received several apostolic blessings from three Popes, as well as a Beautification by Pope John Paul II in 2004. After our tour of the area, we continue to Pamukkale (Cotton Castle), the beautiful and spectacular natural site, unique in the world, formed by thermal spring waters, with the ancient Roman cities of Hierapolis and Necropolis built right next to the travertines. Thermal waters have long been used by the Romans for their therapeutic powers.

Optionally, you may have a swim in the restored ancient thermal Roman baths or at your hotel. Overnight in Pamukkale. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 3: Izmir | Hierapolis, Laodicea, Philadelphia, Sardis, Izmir

After breakfast, we leave the hotel to visit Hierapolis. This was Philip the Evangelist’s home. We will tour the extensive necropolis, churches and baths, and then stop at nearby Laodicea (Rev: 3:14-22: Col 2:1: 4:13-16). Then we drive to Philadelphia, the Sixth Church of Revelation (Rev: 1:11, 3:7-13) in Alasehir, which was a city frequented by both St. John and St. Paul, and also unique along with Smyrna to be one of the only cities to receive nothing but praise by Jesus. We then visit Sardis (Rev: 3:16) with its beautiful gymnasium and the marble paved synagogue. The city is both an important Jewish Heritage site, as well as home to one of the first churches of St. John. The city also served as the capital of Lydia.

At the end of the day, depending on your program, we will either transfer you to the port of Izmir to embark on your ship (for Pre-Cruise) or transfer you to the Izmir International Airport for your departure (for Post-Cruise). (Breakfast, Lunch)
